Washington Football Team quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will undergo an MRI on his injured hip in two weeks, Washington head coach Ron Rivera told reporters Monday.

Fitzpatrick suffered hip subluxation in Week 1. The timetable for his return was initially 6-8 weeks. However, an Ian Rapoport report on Sunday stated Fitzpatrick is “still weeks away” from a return.

The progress in his recovery has gone slower than expected. The 38-year old quarterback is still using crutches to get around the team facility.

Washington’s upcoming game at the Denver Broncos in Week 8 will mark the seventh straight game Fitzpatrick will miss. Washington will have a bye the following week.

There was hope he would be nearing his return about this time. But given the latest report and Rivera’s confirmation of an MRI, Fitzpatrick may be out longer. His return this season isn’t certain.

Rivera stressed he didn’t put a timeframe on Fitzpatrick’s injury from the beginning. Meanwhile, Taylor Heinicke will remain Washington’s starting quarterback. Heinicke has started each of the last six games with Fitz out.
