Saints' Alvin Kamara reveals heartfelt message to Foster Moreau after brutal loss
With 30 seconds remaining in Thursday night's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, New Orleans Saints tight end Foster Moreau was in position to secure a potential game-tying touchdown from quarterback Derek Carr. Open in the corner of the end zone, Moreau watched the ball slip through his hands, along with New Orleans' chances of earning its fourth win of the season.
Moreau, who later told reporters "it's a dark place to be," was visibly shaken on the sideline following the brutal drop, leading to Alvin Kamara consoling his teammate. The star running back hugged Moreau before walking with him to the locker room.
Speaking after the 31-24 loss to the Jaguars, Kamara revealed to the media what he told Moreau after the drop.
“There's going to be bigger plays, there's going to be more plays out there. I just told him, man, he's blessed for what he's been through. That ain't nothing,” Kamara said. “Honestly, I don't think we should be in that position right there where we're looking at that like, ‘Oh man, he should've caught it.' Of course, he should've caught it. He knows he should've caught it. Anybody in that position right there should've caught it. We're pros.”
Moreau, 26, was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma this past offseason following a free-agent visit with the Saints. In July, Moreau revealed his cancer is in full remission.
Through five games (four starts) this season, Moreau has hauled in 10 of 11 targets for 92 yards and one touchdown. The LSU product flashed upside last season as a member of the Las Vegas Raiders, when he caught 33 passes for 420 yards while spelling an injured Darren Waller.
As for Kamara, the five-time Pro Bowler has been as dominant as ever, totaling 153 yards from scrimmage against Jacksonville. Despite missing the first three games of the season due to suspension, Kamara's 35 receptions on the year are nine more than any running back in the NFL.
