According to reports, Mark Ingram and Reggie Bush, both first-round picks for the New Orleans Saints, will be trading roles at Fox Sports. New Post's Andrew Marchand reports that Reggie Bush is "likely out at Fox Sports in a contract dispute, while Mark Ingram II strongly considers retirement from the NFL to join "Big Noon Kickoff."
SAINTS GREATS: BUSH AND INGRAM
Reggie Bush, 38, exited after five seasons with the Saints while earning a championship ring for defeating the Colts in Super Bowl 44. The highly talented player was Sean Payton's first multi-threat preceding Darren Sproles and Alvin Kamara. The former USC Trojan rushed for 2,090 yards and 17 rushing touchdowns but added 294 receptions for 2,142 yards and 12 receiving touchdowns. Also, he recorded four touchdowns on punt returns, 3 in 2008.
Mark Ingram II, 33, would leave the New Orleans Saints in free agency as the franchise's all-time leading rusher with 6,500 yards on 1,451 rushing attempts and 52 rushing touchdowns in 123 game appearances. He and Alvin Kamara were a potent duo for the Saints, but after Ingram's return from stints with the Ravens and Texans, the numbers dropped due to injuries and his extended time in the industry.
Bush and Ingram were Heisman Trophy winners before being drafted by New Orleans. The team drafted USC running back Reggie Bush as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. New Orleans traded with the New England Patriots back into the first of the 2011 NFL Draft to select Mark Ingram II as the 28th overall selection.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR SAINTS GREATS?
Ingram is a very entertaining figure and would fit well in a broadcast environment after retirement. Cam Jordan and Ingram co-hosted 35 episodes of their Truss Levelz podcast on Apple Podcasts. The tandem had current and former Saints players as guests, from Drew Brees, Jameis Winston, Jarvis Landry, Darren Sproles, and Marcus Williams.
Should he and Fox decide to part ways at the network, Reggie Bush will have his suitors in collegiate or professional broadcasting. He's very knowledgeable about the game and has become a fan favorite.
New Orleans will be begin preseason action against the Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs in Caesars Superdome at 12 noon on Sunday, Aug. 13.
