Saints' Malcolm Jenkins buys lunch for 300 Philadelphia poll workers

New Orleans Saints safety Malcolm Jenkins spent six seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, so it's safe to say he has strong ties to the Philly community. The winner of the 2020 Presidential Election was just announced, and poll workers across the country are working around the clock to tally up the votes.

One of the key states in this year's election is Pennsylvania, and poll workers have been working extra hard to count the ballots in that state. In light of that, Jenkins provided lunch to 300 poll workers at the Philadelphia Convention Center on Friday, according to ESPN's Tim McManus. 

"Covid-19 has made us aware of the importance of essential workers, and as we try to hold the election in the middle of a pandemic, those who are doing the job of counting votes are essential to our democracy," Jenkins said in a statement. "My Foundation and I wanted them to know they are appreciated and the work they are doing is important to the fabric of our democracy. It was also important to me to support a minority-owned business in Philadelphia and Keven Parker's Soul Food Cafe made it happen on short notice."

The Malcolm Jenkins Foundation bought the food from Keven Parker Soul Food Cafe by Ms. Tootsies, which is a minority-owned business. The workers were fed when they were on their break from counting votes. The lunch boxes contained chicken or fish, a dinner roll, macaroni and cheese or yams and a bottle of water. 

We also have seen other athletes provide lunch for election workers, including Hawks star Trae Young, who purchased meals for workers tallying votes in Atlanta.
