Saints QB Jameis Winston, RB Alvin Kamara questionable for Week 3 vs. Panthers

With the release of Friday's injury report, the Saints revealed that starting quarterback Jameis Winston (back, ankle) and running back Alvin Kamara (ribs) are questionable for Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. Meanwhile, cornerback Alontae Taylor has been declared out.

It's no surprise Winston or Kamara are on the injury report, as both have been dealing with early-season maladies. While the Saints' chances of winning greatly diminish without Kamara, Winston's potential absence includes an element of the unknown.

If he can't play, the Saints would turn to Andy Dalton, whom they signed in the offseason. While he is an upgrade over former Saints backups Trevor Siemian or Ian Book, Dalton is a QB whose best days are behind him.

He appeared in eight games for the Bears in 2021, throwing for 1,515 yards, eight touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Dalton began his career in Cincinnati in 2011, playing nine seasons for the Bengals before the sides parted ways following the 2019 season. He started nine games in 2020 with the Dallas Cowboys.

Over his 11-season career and 148 starts, Dalton has a 77-69-2 record.
