Saints reportedly now have at least eight positive COVID-19 cases

It was learned earlier on Tuesday that the New Orleans Saints had at least five assistant coaches test positive for COVID-19 coming off this past Sunday's 38-3 victory over the Green Bay Packers.

The virus outbreak was not contained as of the early afternoon hours.

ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Tom Pelissero have added that the Saints have thus far had six assistant coaches, a team nutritionist and a player currently on injured reserve test positive for the coronavirus. Schefter adds all of the assistants are offensive coaches.

Saints head coach Sean Payton previously said his entire staff is considered fully vaccinated against the coronavirus. Fully vaccinated NFL personnel can return to team activities if they remain asymptomatic and can produce a pair of negative COVID-19 test results 24 hours apart. Unvaccinated individuals must isolate away from the team for a minimum of 10 days.

As of now, the Saints are still scheduled to play at the Carolina Panthers this coming Sunday. The Packers, meanwhile, are set to host the Detroit Lions in a Week 2 "Monday Night Football" showdown and haven't yet been reported to be dealing with any COVID-19 setbacks linked with their loss to the Saints.
