Saints star DE gives simple explanation for whether he'll retire
New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan signed a two-year contract extension in August 2023 with the only team he's ever known. While he still has one season left on that deal, the 34-year-old's words on Monday make it sound like he could extend his NFL career past 2024.
Jordan suited up for all 17 games during the regular season after missing just one game apiece in each of the two previous campaigns. Those two contests between the 2021 and 2022 seasons are the only ones he's missed during his 13-year career.
The former first-round pick's numbers were down across the board in 2023 as he played a career-low 771 defensive snaps. Jordan finished the year with his fewest tackles (43), quarterback hits (six), tackles for loss (three) and sacks (2.0) since his 2011 rookie campaign and wasn't named a Pro Bowler for the first time since 2016.
Still, the eight-time Pro Bowler's durability and veteran leadership is unquestioned and he's likely hungry to get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
Jordan and the Saints made the postseason six times from 2011-2020, including four straight times at the end of the run. Since then, the team has sandwiched 9-8, second-place finishes in the NFC South with a 7-10 third-place finish in Dennis Allen's first year at the helm.
Jordan is one of the best defensive players in franchise history, as he holds the franchise record for quarterback hits (225) and tackles for loss (153) and is fourth in passes defended (61).
