Samori Toure could be a big-play receiver for Aaron Rodgers

The Green Bay Packers needed to address the receiver position this offseason after losing All-Pro receiver Davante Adams and speedy receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to AFC West teams. They did exactly that in April's NFL Draft.

They drafted North Dakota State's Christian Watson (second round), Nevada's Romeo Doubs (fourth round), and Nebraska's Samori Toure (seventh round). The last of those names might be the most underrated rookie on the entire team.

Toure was the definition of a big-play receiver in college and at multiple levels, too. He was an All-American at Montana in 2019 after putting up 87 receptions for 1,495 receiving yards and 13 receiving touchdowns. After transferring to Nebraska in 2021, Toure caught 46 passes for 898 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns.

The Oregon native put up an average of 19.5 yards-per-reception last season, which was the seventh-best mark in the country with receivers who caught at least 40 passes. His career yards-per-reception mark in college was 16.0. His three-cone time of 6.77 would have been the third-best at the NFL Scouting Combine and his 4.22 short shuttle would have been fourth-best. It is very clear that he has all of the characteristics of a big-play receiver.

Even quarterback Aaron Rodgers had high praise for the former Cornhusker. "All three of the guys we drafted (receivers) obviously have the physical gifts. Obviously, the top two picks are bigger, Doubs and Watson, but the seventh-round pick's got a lot of stuff to him. So, I think it's going to be great," Rodgers said on The Pat McAfee Show earlier this month.

Toure could be a key down-the-field threat for Green Bay's offense. With veterans Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb back in the fold, along with talented rookies in Watson and Doubs, Green Bay has a quiet, yet underrated receiving core for 2022.
