The Seattle Seahawks entered their bye week after a 24-3 pummeling of the New York Giants, which improved their record to 3-1.
Now, feeling fresh and recovered, Seattle makes the trip to face Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals in the toughest test of the young season on Sunday at Paycor Stadium.
With the Seahawks riding the wave of a three-game win streak and the Bengals stuttering along through the first five weeks, NFL analyst Marcus Spears has picked Seattle to come into Bengals territory and extend its winning streak to four.
“I’m going to take the Seattle Seahawks and Geno [Smith] and this offense,” Spears said on NFL Live. “I think they’ve been in a groove a little bit longer this Cincinnati, this will be a tough challenge. They have really good players on the back end. I’m going the Seattle Seahawks, I’ve got a feeling about this one, it will not bode well for the Cincinnati Bengals, maybe they pull it off, but I’m going to take Seattle over their consistency they’ve had all season long.”
After the Week 1 mishap against the Los Angeles Rams, the Seahawks, as Spears stated, have found their groove, rattling off three straight wins.
For the Bengals, after losing their first two games of the season, have bounced back somewhat, winning two of their last three as they look to have things sorted out.
Many had Seattle in the upper echelon of teams in the league at the beginning of the season, and after the first month, that feels about right. But now, we will get to see exactly how well the Seahawks stack up against one of the AFC contenders on Sunday.
The Seahawks have the weapons as D.K. Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and the struggling Jaxon Smith-Njigba all could have their say on the outcome of the result. While the defense, which tormented Daniel Jones, is rested and ready to get after Burrow, who still isn't 100% after his calf injury.
The Seahawks have a chance to lay down an early-season marker on Sunday. If they can escape Cincinnati with a win and extend their winning streak to four, then the rest of the NFL will have to take Seattle seriously as a potential Super Bowl threat.
