Seahawks' Bobby Wagner surprised by dominant showing vs. Giants

Seattle Seahawks veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner expected a better performance from the offense of the New York Giants this past Monday night after New York lost 30-12 at the San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 21.

"I watched the San Francisco film, and I know San Francisco went up by a lot," Wagner told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. "But, you know, you watch those guys come back. We got a ton of respect for (Giants quarterback) Daniel Jones and his ability to run. We wasn’t sure how it was going to play out, but we thought we had a chance to win."

The Giants entered the fourth quarter of the San Francisco game trailing 20-12 but then gave up 10 unanswered points. Against the Seahawks on Monday night, Jones' sieve-like offensive line surrendered 11 total sacks in front of home fans who loudly booed a unit that failed to find the end zone a single time.

Wagner tallied two of those sacks in the blowout victory.

"I think it’s just — simply put, it’s just fun," Wagner added about producing such a dominant showing against a road opponent. "You know that everything’s kind of clicking and then it’s a lot more fun when everybody is doing it. . . . [cornerback Devon Witherspoon] had a really, really big game, but you had a lot of other guys that were able to get sacks, hits on the quarterback, really limit their rushing, except for him getting out and using his legs. And so it was just fun."

Witherspoon, the fifth overall pick of this year's draft, introduced himself to a national television audience when he recorded a 97-yard pick-six to go along with two sacks and seven total tackles against New York:

The 3-1 Seahawks are enjoying their bye and next play at the Cincinnati Bengals on Oct. 15. 1-3 Cincinnati will face the 1-3 Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium this coming Sunday.
