Seahawks' DK Metcalf doesn't need knee surgery after Week 7 injury

The Seattle Seahawks improved to 4-3 on the season via Sunday's 37-23 win at the Los Angeles Chargers and also avoided a potential disaster regarding their offense.

Per Brady Henderson of ESPN, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll told local radio station Seattle Sports 710-AM on Monday that star wide receiver DK Metcalf doesn't need surgery to address the knee injury he suffered late in the first quarter of Sunday's victory.

"I was just with him in the training room and he's really positive about it," Carroll said about Metcalf's status heading into this coming Sunday's home game against the 6-1 New York Giants. "I don't know what that means in terms of coming back and how soon and all of that, but his attitude is exactly where you would want it to be. ... Anyway, so I told him to be hard-head about it and I'll try to help him not hurt himself as we go through the process."

It's unclear if Metcalf will feature against the Giants. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero (h/t Kevin Patra) reported there is no set timetable for Metcalf's return to the lineup.

Metcalf and the Seahawks agreed to a three-year, $72 million extension in July, and ESPN stats show the 24-year-old is second on the team with 31 catches, 52 targets, 418 receiving yards and a pair of touchdown grabs.

Meanwhile, veteran quarterback Geno Smith replaced the traded Russell Wilson atop the Seattle depth chart and is currently third among all eligible signal-callers with a 107.7 passer rating, fourth with a 66.8 total QBR, seventh with 1,712 passing yards, tied for sixth with 11 passing scores and first with a 73.5% completion percentage this season.

If Metcalf can't play against the Giants, he'll try to get right for the Week 9 matchup at the Arizona Cardinals (3-4) on Nov. 6.
