Seahawks extend GM John Schneider through 2027 NFL Draft

The Seattle Seahawks were eliminated from the playoffs by the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday, but Seahawks chair Jody Allen nevertheless believes in those guiding the franchise into the future.

On Tuesday, the Seahawks officially announced that general manager John Schneider has signed a contract extension through the 2027 NFL Draft. Head coach Pete Carroll previously signed his extension that runs through the 2025 season.

"I am pleased to announce that we have extended the contract of general manager John Schneider through the 2027 draft," Allen said in the prepared statement. "For the last decade, John and head coach Pete Carroll have formed a tremendous partnership and the Seahawks have established a successful, unique, and truly winning culture respected throughout sports. I know we are all excited to see that continue."

Per Brady Henderson of ESPN, Schneider had been linked with the Detroit Lions' opening at GM before Tuesday's announcement.

The partnership of Schneider and Carroll has taken Seattle to the playoffs in nine of 11 seasons and notched two Super Bowl appearances, one of which resulted in the franchise's first championship (Super Bowl XLVIII). 24 players acquired under the duo's watch via draft classes, trades, and free agency have made Pro Bowl squads.

Days after the 30-20 loss to the Rams, Carroll explained that he wants the Seahawks to run the ball more during the 2021 campaign. There's now no question Carroll and Schneider will work together to retool Seattle's offense, as necessary, before September.
