Seahawks' Geno Smith driving 96 mph, across traffic lanes before DUI arrest?

It was learned Monday that Seattle Seahawks backup quarterback Geno Smith was arrested by the Washington State Patrol on suspicion of driving under the influence in the early morning hours coming off the Week 18 victory at the Arizona Cardinals. There's now more information about the matter.

The Associated Press (h/t ESPN) notes that a police report claims Smith was driving 96 mph in a 60-mph zone and also going across multiple lanes of traffic before he was pulled over. Additionally, the state trooper involved in the encounter said he "detected a strong odor of intoxicants" and also that Smith "had bloodshot, watery eyes." The signal-caller, meanwhile, admitted to having wine but said he stopped drinking roughly 90 minutes before police pulled him over.

According to TMZ Sports, Smith refused to voluntarily take a breath test and then had to be restrained at a medical facility after a judge issued a search warrant for his blood to be taken. Smith also allegedly threatened police and told at least one officer: "You don't want to see me out of these cuffs, you don't want to know what will happen."

On Monday afternoon local time, Smith's attorney Jon Fox issued a statement that read:

"Geno is fully cooperative with the investigation. I hope that an open mind can be kept by all as the facts are ascertained."

Smith is on track to hit free agency when the new NFL year begins in March, and his status with the Seahawks was up in the air even before this latest development.
