The Seattle Seahawks are getting a key piece in their secondary back for the massive test posed by the San Francisco 49ers offense.

Seattle confirmed hours ahead of the primetime Thanksgiving clash that defensive back Coby Bryant has been activated from injured reserve. He takes the place of star rookie special teamer Jerrick Reed II, who heads to IR after suffering a torn ACL.

Bryant has not played since Week 2 because of a toe injury. Seattle's starting slot cornerback in his rookie season last year, the Seahawks moved him to safety in training camp, and his versatility could be useful in helping Seattle's defense utilize disguise in its efforts to slow down a San Francisco attack that leads the NFL in DVOA and Expected Points Added per play.

In addition, the Seahawks have also elevated quarterback Brett Rypien from the practice squad.

Rypien will serve as additional insurance for Geno Smith, who is set to start against the 49ers' fearsome defensive front despite suffering a significantly bruised tricep in the Seahawks' defeat to the Los Angeles Rams last Sunday.

Smith left the game against the Rams before returning to try to lead a game-winning drive. In his absence, backup Drew Lock completed only two of his six passes for three yards and an interception.

The Seahawks (6-4) trail the 49ers (7-3) by a game in the battle for the NFC West title.
