Seahawks release OT Chad Wheeler amid domestic violence allegations

The Seattle Seahawks released a statement regarding offensive tackle Chad Wheeler, announcing that Wheeler is no longer with the team and is a free agent amid domestic violence allegations.

Seattle sent condolences to the victim and listed numbers for the National Domestic Violence Hotline and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

Wheeler allegedly strangled his girlfriend after she refused to bow to him to the point where he thought she was dead. When she woke up after being unconscious, he reportedly said, "Wow, you're alive?"

The 27-year-old was arrested on Saturday and released from jail on $400,000 bond on Tuesday.

Wheeler was not a starter for the Seahawks and was set to become a restricted free agent in March. While Seattle released a statement, the NFL is reviewing the matter under the personal conduct policy.

The 27-year-old joined the Seahawks for the 2020 season after spending the 2017 and 2018 campaigns with the New York Giants.
