Seahawks release two three-time Pro Bowlers in flurry of cuts

The Seahawks hired Mike Macdonald as their new head coach earlier this offseason. With the new regime taking over in Seattle, the team made a flurry of cuts on Tuesday that included two three-time Pro Bowlers.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Seahawks are releasing three-time Pro Bowl safeties Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs. The moves save $27.5 million in cash.

Seattle parting ways with Adams, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, isn't much of a surprise as many named him a "cut candidate" to begin the offseason.

The 28-year-old has played in just 10 games the past two seasons due to injuries, posting just 51 tackles and three passes defensed in the span.

However, the same can't be said about the Seahawks also deciding to cut Diggs. The former sixth-round pick by the Lions in 2015 will turn 32 next season, but he didn't play poorly by any means in 2023, posting a career-high 95 tackles as well as one interception and five passes defensed.

Last offseason, Seattle did hand a two-year, $12 million deal to safety Julian Love, who will likely take over as one of the team's starting safeties. However, the Seahawks must now find another safety to pair with Love in free agency or the 2024 NFL Draft.

The secondary isn't the only position Seattle will need to address, as it released veteran tight end Will Dissly as well in a move that saves the team $7 million in salary cap space.

The loss of Dissly wouldn't normally be that big of a blow, but the Seahawks could potentially lose tight end Noah Fant, who is set to hit the open market next week.

Nonetheless, Seattle's new era under Macdonald is clearly going to look very different and the team's flurry of cuts on Tuesday proves exactly that.
