Seahawks reportedly have made offer to Jamal Adams, awaiting response

The Seattle Seahawks have reportedly made another offer to Jamal Adams and are awaiting word on if he'll accept or not, according to ESPN's Brady Henderson.

The Seahawks and Adams' agent have not spoken in several days, Henderson adds.

Adams is looking for an extension that will make him the highest-paid safety in the NFL, topping the $15.25 million per-year average of Denver Broncos star Justin Simmons.

The 25-year-old reported to training camp on time this summer but has not practiced due to his contract situation. According to Henderson, Adams and the Seahawks have been discussing a deal throughout the offseason and conversations only recently stalled.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported last month that the Seahawks are willing to make Adams the highest-paid safety in the NFL. Garafolo added that the veteran safety might view himself closer to being a Fred Warner than a Simmons. Warner recently signed a five-year, $95 million extension ($19 million AAV) with the San Francisco 49ers.

However, the Seahawks reportedly would like to keep Bobby Wagner as their highest-paid defensive player at $18 million per year. So it seems unlikely that Adams will receive Warner-like money from Seattle.

Adams, 25, recorded a career-high 9.5 sacks, three pass breakups, one forced fumble, 83 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss and 14 quarterback hits in 12 games last season. It was his first campaign with the Seahawks after three seasons with the New York Jets.

For now, Adams is set to play the 2021 season on his fifth-year option, which carries a $9.86 million salary.
