The New York Giants reportedly have Seattle Seahawks special teams coordinator Larry Izzo on their radar for their vacant special teams role, according to ESPN.

Izzo is a former NFL linebacker who made a career for himself on special teams. He racked up 298 special teams tackles during his career, more than any other NFL player in history (298).

He began his NFL career with the Dolphins in 1996 before jumping over to the Patriots in 2001. He ended his playing days in 2009 with the Jets, but not before appearing in three Super Bowl championships (XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX), earning a 2004 first-team All-Pro honors, and finishing on the Patriots All-2000s Team.

Two years after his playing career ended, Izzo went into coaching, his first assignment being with the Giants from 2011 to 2015 as their assistant special teams coordinator. He then spent two seasons with the Texans as their special teams coordinator before moving to Seattle in 2018, first as an assistant special teams coach and then being promoted in 2021 to the full-time coordinator role after serving part of the 2020 season as an interim STC.

Under Izzo, the Seahawks consistently had a strong special teams unit. This past season, the Seahawks finished sixth in Rick Gosselin's annual special team rankings, based on where teams finish the season ranked in 22 different special teams statistical categories. They also boasted the best average starting point (26.5-yard line) out of the 32 NFL teams.

It's unknown at this time if the Giants have requested permission to speak with the 49-year-old Izzo about their vacancy.
