Sean McVay takes some blame for Jared Goff's decline with Rams

Jared Goff led the Los Angeles Rams to the Super Bowl in 2019. Now he finds himself with a new team in the Detroit Lions after falling out of favor with the Rams.

Goff was never able to match his performance from the 2018 campaign, and now Rams head coach Sean McVay is taking some of the blame for that. McVay said on NFL Network via (Yahoo Sports):

"When you look back at the four years that we did have together, there's a lot of times you can smile on. And I would say there's a lot of things that when I self-reflect, I certainly wish I was better for him in some instances … I'm not going to run away from the things that I could have been better for him as a leader and as a coach."

Both sides can be blamed for Goff's demise, but the quarterback didn't help himself over the last two seasons. In 2020, the former first overall pick completed 67% of his passes for 3,952 yards and 20 touchdowns against 13 interceptions.

Goff's decline in L.A. ended with the Rams choosing to start John Wolford in the playoffs despite the 26-year-old saying he was fine. In an interview last month, Goff said he could tell he wasn't wanted by the Rams anymore.
