Sean Payton hasn't yet spoken with any outlets about TV, radio jobs

A portion of recent reports claiming that Sean Payton could willingly step down as head coach of the New Orleans Saints said that multiple networks were interested in hiring him to serve as a future on-air analyst.

Payton officially informed the Saints on Tuesday that he's leaving the organization, and he addressed such rumors during a press conference.

"I don’t know what’s next," the 58-year-old one-time Super Bowl-winning coach told reporters, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. "I read the reports, and understand, I’ve not spoken to anyone from a media outlet relative to doing television or radio. Maybe that opportunity arises, but every time I read something that says, 'He’s in line for this job,' I’ll call my agent Don and say, 'Don have you heard anything?' He said, 'I’ve not heard anything.'

"I think I’d like to do that. I think I’d be pretty good at it."

Per Mike Triplett of ESPN, Payton added that he could eventually return to the sidelines but also insisted "that's not where my heart is right now." His deal with the Saints was set to run through the 2024 season, meaning the franchise will retain his rights and could look to receive compensation via a trade if Payton ever wishes to pursue a coaching job with a different NFL team.

For now, expect to see Payton routinely linked with the likes of ESPN and multiple other networks until he puts pen to paper on an agreement.
