As my devout readers (read my articles here to join the club) know, I’m a football historian first and foremost. It’s difficult to focus on predicting the future when I spend so much time focusing on what has happened in the league. But it’s NFL draft season, so here we find ourselves. Let’s get our crystal balls, everyone.
Seattle Seahawks Picks In The 2024 NFL Draft
Seattle only has seven picks in the 2024 draft. They lost their second-round pick in a mid-season trade for Leonard Williams and now have two third-round picks.
They include:
Round 1: No. 17 Overall
Round 3: No. 78 Overall
Round 3: No. 81 Overall (From Denver Via New Orleans)
Round 4: No. 118 Overall
Round 5: No. 150 Overall
Round 6: No. 193 Overall
Round 7: No. 232 Overall
Seven picks feels a bit sparse after ten picks last year. The Seattle Seahawks have a good habit of using their draft picks wisely, so I feel confident that this year won’t be any different. For the most part.
I don’t know how much of a say Pete Carroll had, and since they tossed him away like an elderly horse to pasture, that could affect their selection process. And they deserve what they deserve.
Draft Needs For The Hawks
Y’all know how I feel about Jason Myers, so if there’s any good kickers out there, we are in the market (according to me).
I feel like we could use a little help on the o-line. Geno Smith was eating the grass more often than ideal. And since Geno can’t eat grass forever, it will be helpful to get a rookie QB who can sit behind him for hopefully a few more years. That style really, really works for Green Bay. We should try it.
Most of us draft professionals feel that the defense needs some extra help. We have some great pieces from recent drafts; the Hawks could just benefit from a few more. With our new defensive-minded coach, this will likely be an area of focus for him as well.
I could see the LB and DE positions particularly needing a little bolstering with some rookies who can sit behind our more well-seasoned defenders for now. Or have a breakout season like Witherspoon this year and Riq Woolen last year. Either way.
First Seattle Seahawks 2024 Mock Draft
I used the NFL Mock Draft Database for the first version of the Seahawks 2024 mock draft. Trades were not part of this mock draft because my crystal ball doesn’t work quite that well. It’s an unpredictable variable that we will put to the side for now.
Round 1: No. 17 Overall – Jer’Zhan Newton DL, Illinois
Round 3: No. 78 Overall – Blake Fisher OT, Notre Dame
Round 3: No. 81 Overall (From Denver Via New Orleans) – Michael Pratt QB, Tulane
Round 4: No. 118 Overall – Zion Tupuola-Fetui EDGE, Washington
Round 5: No. 150 Overall – Jaylan Ford LB, Texas
Round 6: No. 193 Overall – Delmar Glaze IOL, Maryland
Round 7: No. 232 Overall – Joshua Karty K, Stanford
Mock Draft Analysis
The football draft gods agree with me. A kicker was like a Christmas present for me, and as we know, the Seattle Seahawks tend to do well when drafting Stafford men. The draft gods also know my alma mater is Tulane and feel our team could use a little New Orleans flavor. No argument from me.
With the majority of the draft picks focusing on our needs at the o-line and the defense, it seems spot on to me. The fellow Washingtonian (at least for college) edge rusher, Zion, seems like a must if we’re going to keep Geno healthy. Fighting Irish Blake Fisher is also the perfect addition to the offensive side of the ball.
Jaylan Ford and Jer’Zhan Newton will help round out what has the makings of an incredible defense.
The mock draft picks are solid and help fill our needs where we have them. We don’t have any flashy picks, but we can use what we have to bring in great rookies.
