The Seattle Seahawks currently have a rather unsettling situation at quarterback.

They are going into 2024 with Geno Smith under center, and while Smith is certainly serviceable and is actually coming off of back-to-back Pro Bowl campaigns, he showed obvious signs of decline last season, and he is 33 years old.

The Seahawks did acquire Sam Howell in a trade with the Washington Commanders earlier this offseason, but Howell led the NFL in interceptions in 2023 and is probably not who the team really views as is quarterback of the future.

Taking those things into consideration, it’s no surprise that Seattle may be considering drafting a signal-caller, and according to Ian Rapoport of NFL media, the Seahawks have already met with South Carolina’s Spencer Rattler with the NFL Draft approaching.

Rattler is not one of the very top quarterback prospects in this year’s draft class and almost certainly won’t be going in the first round, but Seattle could use a later pick on him.

The Seahawks own the 16th overall pick of the draft, so they probably won’t be able to land one of the top four prospects in Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels and J.J. McCarthy.

Seattle could always try and go for Oregon’s Bo Nix or potentially Washington’s Michael Penix Jr., but it may have to trade up for Nix, and taking Penix at No. 16 would probably be overdrafting him.

That’s why it may make sense for the Seahawks to look at a player like Rattler, who is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he threw for 3,186 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 68.9 percent of his passes.

Rattler began his collegiate career at the University of Oklahoma but transferred to South Carolina in 2022.

His overall numbers aren’t overly impressive, as he amassed a total of 77 passing touchdowns and 32 picks across four seasons with the Sooners and the Gamecocks. However, there are some who like Rattler’s skillset, and he may end up being a steal in the middle rounds.
