Shaquill Griffin agrees to three-year, $44.5 million deal with Jaguars

One of the top cornerbacks in the free-agent market is no longer available, as the Jacksonville Jaguars have signed Shaquill Griffin to a three-year deal. According to The Athletic's Michael-Shawn Dugar, the contract is worth up to $44.5 million, with $29 million guaranteed.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the Seahawks were making a "strong push" to hold on to Griffin, who was drafted by Seattle in 2017. Ultimately, it seems like the Jags were able to offer more than enough money to convince Griffin to switch conferences.

Griffin established himself as one of the game's better corners last season, grabbing three interceptions and defending 12 passes despite missing four games while recovering from injury. His impressive season paid off handsomely, as he has officially become one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL. He will be joining a secondary that includes Tre Herndon and Sidney Jones, both of whom were re-signed by Jacksonville earlier this month.

The Jaguars are hoping to hit the ground running in the Urban Meyer era and with plenty of cap space, Griffin may end up being the first of many big-name free agents that they land this offseason. The Jags also have the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft and are expected to take Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
