It’s a tough question to ask, but it has merits: should the Las Vegas Raiders consider shutting down stalwart left tackle Kolton Miller for the year?

As the Silver and Black await the Minnesota Vikings in Week 14, Allegiant Stadium will be rocking. Let’s face it, the season’s far from over, at least not technically. Entering this crucial final stretch, the team will start it off without Kolton Miller. While not the biggest name in terms of national recognition, Miller has been a cornerstone player since being drafted back in 2018. He’s still an intricate part of the long-term vision—reliable left tackles don’t grow on trees.

Still, as far as Sunday goes, missing Miller will be big. The Vikings’ vaunted pass rush could have a field day teeing off against rookie signal-caller Aidan O’Connell. In particular, Vikings Pro Bowl pass rusher Danielle Hunter might end up with a monster performance. In the month of November alone, Hunter accumulated three and a half sacks and six tackles for a loss—a total of eight QB hits to boot.

What should the Las Vegas Raiders do about Kolton Miller?

Beyond Sunday’s matchup, the Raiders need to think long-term. If the team drafts a premier right tackle prospect in April, there’s a chance to build a formidable duo with a healthy Kolton Miller. Now, let’s say Miller’s shoulder injury is indeed more serious. If that’s true, then what’s being let on—why risk it?

While he’s flown largely under the radar for most of his career, No. 74 is currently the 11th-best tackle in the league, according to Pro Football Focus. The Raiders can’t screw this up.

If you’re Las Vegas brass, it comes down to a few factors. If the playoffs are still a realistic goal for you, making it without Miller’s presence is a difficult proposition. He’s invaluable, especially in terms of pass-blocking and what he does for Aidan O’Connell. On the other hand, if you know his shoulder won’t be 100 percent, there’s no need to risk further complicating the ailment.

Let’s say you’re calling the shots, Raider Nation. What would you do?
