The Las Vegas Raiders still have the financial flexibility to go after a free agent or two. The popular consensus is a right tackle, but what about cornerback Deandre Baker following his release from the Kansas City Chiefs?

Several cornerbacks for the Raiders had solid outings during last week’s Hall of Fame Game versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. Nevertheless, the team could still opt to go after depth at that position. Especially when you consider that they’re still gambling on Travon Mullen’s return.

Should the Las Vegas Raiders take a chance with a former first-round pick?

For his part, Baker found himself the odd man out after the Chiefs infused the cornerback room with new faces. Playing in just ten games in the last two years, Baker accumulated a couple of pass deflections, one sack, and 17 solo tackles. Last season, when he was targeted 24 times, he gave up 18 completions, a touchdown, and 192 yards in pass protection.

Originally a first-round selection for the New York Giants back in 2019, current Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham didn’t get a chance to work with him. That was due to the fact that Baker was waived by the Giants and Graham (hired in 2020) never got the opportunity. For those of you who might be wondering, Baker has had his share of off-the-field issues. He was accused of robbing a party back in May of 2020 which led to his release. After getting those charges dropped, Baker made his way onto the Chiefs.

Baker, who will soon be turning 25, still has the natural talent and speed to be an NFL corner. He ran a 4.52 for his 40-yard dash and showed confidence in press coverage during his college career. Considering that Amik Robertson, and Anthony Averett, among others could be dealing with injuries, bringing in Baker immediately alleviates this. What are your thoughts, Raider Nation? Sign or pass on Baker?
