Should Rams pursue this former No. 1 pick this offseason?

The Rams have shifted their focus to the 2024 season and which players they could add to strengthen their roster since losing to the Lions in the wild-card round of the playoffs.

Should Los Angeles sign a former No. 1 pick this offseason? Pro Football Focus thinks so.

PFF says the Rams "should pursue" upcoming free agent LB Jadeveon Clowney, who was the first overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

"Clowney has spent consecutive seasons in the same city just once since leaving the Houston Texans before the 2019 campaign," PFF's Gordon McGuinness writes. "A stint with a Rams team that was better than many expected in 2023 would seem like a good fit."

Clowney is on his fourth team in the past five years but he's having arguably his best season yet with the Ravens. He has 43 tackles, 9.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and five passes defended in 2023.

The 30-year-old has never lived up to the expectations of being a No. 1 overall pick. But he may just earn his biggest contract yet after playing a large role on Baltimore's defense, which allowed the fewest points per game (16.5) in the league. That number will only grow if he helps his team win a Super Bowl as well.

Some would argue that the Ravens should bring him back in 2024 if he does help them hoist a Vince Lombardi Trophy by the end of the season. But money will be much tighter after giving QB Lamar Jackson a five-year, $260M deal last offseason.

That's why Los Angeles makes a lot of sense to be the veteran's sixth team since entering the NFL. The Rams lacked pass rush in 2023 with their sack leader being third-round rookie DT Kobie Turner (nine).

Adding Clowney would instantly upgrade the defensive line as Los Angeles continues to build its roster in hopes of still playing at this time next year.
