Should the Eagles franchise tag Miles Sanders?

Eagles running back Miles Sanders had a career year this season with 259 carries for 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns. But should the Eagles re-sign him?

Sanders is set to become a free agent this offseason, per Over the Cap.

He has never rushed for less than 754 yards or 4.6 yards per carry in his four seasons in Philadelphia. This season was the first time he rushed for more than 1,000 yards. He showed what he's capable of when given the workload he deserves by finishing top-10 in rushing yards and touchdowns this season.

Even though this is all impressive, it might make sense for the Eagles to franchise tag him instead of re-signing him.

At 25 years old, there's still a lot left in the tank for Sanders. Most running backs don't start to deteriorate until they reach 30 years old unless they're Adrian Peterson or Frank Gore. However, the Eagles' current financial situation makes re-signing Sanders difficult.

Several Eagles will be free agents this offseason, including Fletcher Cox, Javon Hargrave, James Bradberry and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to name a few, per USA Today.

While Sanders has played well in his contract year, giving him the franchise tag would work well for both parties. It allows the Eagles to keep Sanders while signing other key players to long-term deals, helping them remain a contender.

It gives Sanders a prove-it deal to showcase his downhill running style for one more season so that he can get the contract he deserves when the time's right, whether that's with the Eagles or elsewhere.

The Eagles are 15-7-1 when Sanders has 15 carries or more in a game, per StatMuse. While they still have Sanders, it makes sense for them to keep giving him the ball as they gear up for a deep playoff run.
