The New Orleans Saints need all the help they can get when it comes to standing atop a weakened NFC South. A strong defense will make it easier for the offense to win more games, so it would make sense for the Saints to invest in quality defensive playmakers.

However, the Saints are having a difficult time figuring out if Marshon Lattimore is worth keeping around for the team. While he’s still an impressive defensive back, he might not be what the team needs with the way they’re set up right now.

As the Saints continue their rebuild, one analyst shares his thoughts on whether the team should get rid of Lattimore or not.

Analyst argues for keeping Marshon Lattimore on the New Orleans Saints

Hayden Reel of Canal Street Chronicles argues that the team shouldn’t look to ship off Marshon Lattimore and instead use him as a cornerstone to build a strong pass defense that would help them stand atop the NFC South.

His biggest argument is that even though Lattimore hasn’t been healthy for every New Orleans Saints game, he’s always been one of their best defenders whenever he’s available. Despite only playing ten games in 2023, Lattimore managed to make one interception, eight pass deflections, and 32 solo tackles.

Another huge reason that has Reel convinced against trading Lattimore is the minimal value teams would get from trading their best defensive backs:

The New Orleans Saints  will be unlikely to get equal value in return for Lattimore due to him still being under contract. The most recent corner of equal talent to be traded was Jalen Ramsey who was acquired by the  Dolphins for just a 3rd round pick. Lattimore is worth way more than that, but it is unlikely the Saints would get more for him.

With the way the market for players on the secondary is set up, it’s very unlikely for someone of Lattimore’s talents to get plenty from a trade. Due to that, it may be better for the Saints to take the cap hit and integrate him to their team-building strategy for 2024 and beyond.
