St. Louis mayor says city is moving on from NFL

With the Rams having jumped ship to Los Angeles, many have been wondering if St. Louis will find a new NFL team to take its place. Well, according St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, don't expect it to happen.

"I’m moving on," Slay said on Tuesday. "It’s very disappointing in the way the NFL handled this. As I said … we’re moving on."

Slay's statement may come as a bit of a surprise, as last week during a conference call with Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Slay was told by Goodell that he wanted to discuss the future of football in St. Louis further.

Still, the Rams' sudden departure from St. Louis appears to have left a foul taste in the mouth of Slay. He appears in no mood to deal with an NFL owner once again after Stan Kroenke moved his team.

St. Louis may be deserving of an NFL team, but don't expect football to return to the "Gateway to the West" anytime in the near future.

At least St. Louis residents still have the Cardinals and Blues to root for.
