Standoff between Aaron Rodgers, Packers to last through start of training camp?

As expected, Green Bay Packers starting quarterback and reigning NFL Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers remained away from organized team activities and mandatory minicamp amid reports he doesn't want to play another down for the club. Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur recently said he's not changing his plans for training camp based on Rodgers' intentions and also told 2020 rookie Jordan Love to "prepare like you're the starter."

Since the Packers ended minicamp, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport (h/t NFL's Adam Maya) has reported the rift between Rodgers and the Packers won't be repaired anytime soon.

"I'd be surprised if there was any hardcore negotiations over the course of the next couple weeks," Rapoport explained during an NFL Network segment. "To me, and based on the people I've spoken with, this is really something that will be wrapped up either way, if they do find the solution that Green Bay has wanted, if Aaron Rodgers does get the security that he wants potentially in the form of a new contract, probably not going to happen until the start of training camp."

Green Bay veteran players are scheduled to report for training camp July 27, and it's unclear if Rodgers intends to continue his holdout through that date or if he'd be willing to sign a new contract that would likely include a pay increase at some point over the next month. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst has said he's not trading Rodgers, who turns 38 years old in December and is signed through 2023.
