Steelers among betting favorites to have lowest-scoring offense for 2022 season

Putting both optimism and pessimism aside, it cannot be denied that the Pittsburgh Steelers have more questions than answers regarding their offense heading into training camp sessions that will open in late July.

Future Hall of Fame quarterback Ben Roethlisberger retired this past winter, and the Steelers initially responded by signing former Chicago Bears castoff and Buffalo Bills No. 2 Mitchell Trubisky. Trubisky immediately became the favorite to win the starting job over career backup Mason Rudolph, and first-round draft selection Kenny Pickett seems more likely to enter September as a third-string option than atop the depth chart.

Thus, it's understandable bettors aren't all that high on the Pittsburgh offense at the moment.

As Dave Bryan explained for Steelers Depot, DraftKings Sportsbook lists the Steelers at +1100, along with the New York Jets, to have the league's lowest-scoring offense for 2022.

The Houston Texans, which have unproven commodity Davis Mills as their starting signal-caller, have the lowest odds at +550. They're followed by the Bears and Atlanta Falcons at +600. The Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks, two teams repeatedly linked in trade rumors with Baker Mayfield of the Cleveland Browns, are at +900. Mayfield and the Browns are expected to "move on" at some point even if Cleveland starter Deshaun Watson is suspended for part or all of the upcoming season.

Behind the Steelers and Jets on the list at +1400 are the New York Giants.

If nothing else, Trubisky and company could, and maybe should, use such chatter as bulletin-board material when they reconvene for workouts following their summer breaks.
