Steelers DT Cam Heyward not going to act like 'the sky is falling'

After a 1-2 start, some in Pittsburgh are panicking like Chicken Little, but defensive tackle Cameron Heyward said he's not going to act like "the sky is falling," per The Athletic's Mike DeFabo.

Heyward believes the Steelers don't have major issues. "Guys know how to play better. So let's do it," he said.

Despite Heyward's optimism, it's hard to believe a simple change will fix the Steelers' problems. After winning the opener in Cincinnati, the Steelers lost to the Patriots and Browns. The offense and defense have faltered.

The defense seems to be losing its edge since 2021 Defensive Player of the Year T.J. Watt suffered a pectoral injury in Week 1. He's on IR and may not return until Week 8. When Watt was in the lineup, they forced six turnovers and made seven sacks. They've only created one turnover and two sacks without Watt.

Offensive woes worsen the burden. They rank at No. 31 of 32 NFL offenses. Fans chanted for rookie first-round draft pick Kenny Pickett to replace quarterback Mitch Trubisky in Week 2 because of a poor performance against the Patriots. Offensive coordinator Matt Canada's play-calling has angered fans.

Wide receiver Chase Claypool isn't panicking, but his patience is starting to wear thin.

"I think it's too early to be frustrated," Claypool said, per DeFabo. "Maybe three, four weeks, I'll have a different answer."
