Steelers DT Cameron Heyward reveals why he chose not to retire
Steelers DT Cameron Heyward just finished his 12th season in the NFL. He was unsure about his NFL future following Pittsburgh's regular season finale, but has since decided to continue playing.
One thing has kept the soon-to-be 34-year-old from hanging up his cleats; a Super Bowl.
"I'm just trying to get this team to the finish line. There's definitely a hunger to help this team win a Super Bowl," Heyward said.
Heyward has been deprived in what has been an overall successful organization. He has just three playoff wins since being drafted in 2011, and none since 2017.
The Steelers could be one or two good offseasons away from contending for a Super Bowl, and Heyward is hoping that's exactly what happens with his career nearing an end. Although, his younger brother, Conner Heyward, believes he has three or four years left in him.
The three-time First-Team All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowler is still playing at a high level. He had 74 tackles, 10.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 2022.
Heyward has his sights on a Super Bowl, but to add extra incentive to a return in 2023, he's just 2.5 sacks away from becoming the Steelers all-time sack leader.
