Not the start Steelers fans wanted on Thursday night. Mitch Trubisky, starting at QB for an injured Kenny Pickett, had the boo birds chirping to begin the 2nd quarter in Pittsburgh.

The slow start resulted in a chorus of boos and scattered calls for Mike Tomlin to yank Trubisky in favor of QB Mason Rudolph.

A Mitch Trubisky interception contributed to a 21-3 deficit early at the hands of an embattled New England Patriots team. The interception aside, the Steelers’ offense has looked completely ineffective through a quarter and a half. And Acrisure Stadium let the team hear it.

Fortunately for the tortured Pittsburgh crowd, Mitch Trubisky and the Steelers showed signs of life late in the 2nd. Mitch threw an absolute dot to Diontae Johnson for a pretty 25-yard TD.

Still, this Steelers team isn’t exactly designed to come back from big deficits. But if the defense can stand up and do what it’s done all season in the 2nd half, the Steelers aren’t out of contention on TNF, and by extension, the AFC North. The Steelers are down 10-21 heading into the 2nd half.
