Steelers HC Mike Tomlin doesn't want to blame Mitchell Trubisky for QB switch

The Pittsburgh Steelers are making the switch to the rookie.

One of the most drawn-out quarterback battles through the summer took place in Pittsburgh between sixth-year pro Mitchell Trubisky and rookie Kenny Pickett. Midway through the Steelers' Week 4 loss to the New York Jets (their third straight defeat), head coach Mike Tomlin made the call.

He addressed the decision with reporters on Tuesday.

In three-plus games this season, Trubisky recorded a 59.5 completion percentage with 653 passing yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions, while adding seven carries for 24 yards and one score.

Pickett didn't take any snaps over the first three weeks of the regular season and went 10-for-13 with 120 passing yards zero touchdowns and three interceptions in relief of Trubisky on Sunday while adding six rushing attempts for 15 yards and two scores on the ground as well.

Pittsburgh will take on the Buffalo Bills in Week 5 at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday. Trubisky spent the 2021 season with the Bills as the backup to Josh Allen.
