Steelers HC Mike Tomlin shuts down OC Matt Canada rumors

The Steelers offense seemed to turn things around in their 23-18 win over the Raiders in Week 3, which was great timing given the rumors surrounding offensive coordinator Matt Canada Sunday morning.

The reports said Pittsburgh was moving Matt Canada, who has been highly criticized for his play-calling, to a more prominent role working with QB Kenny Pickett. A surprising move given the offense's underwhelming performances the first two weeks.

However, head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters on Tuesday that is not the case, saying, "There’s been no change to that role that Canada has working with Pickett."

It's a sigh of relief for those who still don't believe in Canada's offense, which was exposed by NFL analytics for tipping his hand to opposing defenses.

Nonetheless, the Steelers offense was better, totaling 333 yards, two touchdowns and zero turnovers.

Pickett also had his first career game with multiple touchdown passes and a quarterback ranking of more than 100 (108.5).

Granted, it was against a Raiders defense that has struggled to start the year. But if Pickett and the offense can continue stacking similar performances, all the worries will be put to rest.

Canada is far from being left off the hook as well. His play-calling improved but he still had some questionable calls and must prove Week 3 wasn't a fluke.

Pittsburgh's offense still has a ways to go as it ranks as the sixth-worst team in total yards per game (275.7) and 11th-worst in points per game (18.7)

The Steelers go back on the road in Week 4 to face the Texans in a game Canada must replicate his offensive success or risk hearing loud chants of "fire Canada" once again from their well-traveled fans.
