Steelers hire former Penguins CEO David Morehouse as advisor to Art Rooney II

Back in December, the NHL Board of Governors approved the sale of the Pittsburgh Penguins to Fenway Sports Group. Subsequently, Penguins CEO David Morehouse announced his resignation this past spring. 

Morehouse didn't have to travel far to land his next gig in the sports world. 

Per Teresa Varley of the Pittsburgh Steelers' website, the NFL club has hired Morehouse as a senior advisor to team president Art Rooney II.

As noted by Joe Rutter of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Morehouse first joined the Penguins as a consultant in 2004 and was later named team president in 2007. He had CEO responsibilities added to his duties in 2010. 

Morehouse is credited with helping the Penguins win Stanley Cup championships in 2009, 2016 and 2017. Under his watch, the Pens notched home sellouts for every game across 14-plus seasons. 

"We are excited that David is joining the Pittsburgh Steelers," Rooney II said for the team release. "He was very successful during his tenure with the Pittsburgh Penguins, guiding them to a championship-caliber team both on the ice and in their community efforts. He will help us in many areas in the Pittsburgh community and Acrisure Stadium, as well as assisting in many NFL initiatives that involve the Pittsburgh Steelers. We are thrilled for David to continue his success with the Steelers."

Morehouse, a native of the Beechview neighborhood of Pittsburgh, added: 

"This is an exciting day for me and my family. I have spent my entire life watching and rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers, one of the greatest and most respected franchises in all professional sports.

"During my time with the Penguins, I tried to learn from the Steelers and incorporate many of the things that Art II and his family have done with the team. It was an honor to work for great owners at the Penguins in Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle, and now I have a chance to work for Art and the Rooney family. It's a dream come true for a Pittsburgh kid."
