Nate Herbig made a pitch for his brother during his introductory press conference after signing with the Steelers in free agency back in March, and it ended up becoming reality on Saturday when Pittsburgh selected Wisconsin outside linebacker Nick Herbig at 132nd overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Herbig brothers are reunited in Pittsburgh.
Nick Herbig said playing with his brother in the NFL on the same team is a “dream come true” and they’ve talked about it since they were young. When he saw the Pittsburgh area code, tears came to his eyes.
“I couldn’t believe I was going to play with my brother. I started crying,” Nick Herbig said. Nate said back in March when promoting his brother to the Steelers, “Nick Herbig, STUD. … if there’s a guy I can’t block, it’s Nick Herbig.”
Nate and Nick Herbig last played on the same team when Nick was in second grade and Nate was in sixth grade on the Kauai Bulldogs in Hawaii. After Nick was picked, Nate gave him a huge hug after their dream of playing together in the NFL came true. Check out Nate’s reaction below to when it was announced that Nick will be a Steeler. “In the famous words of Nate Herbig, I’m just happy to be here, man. I can’t wait to rock with y’all and bring a Super Bowl to the Burgh, man. Let’s rock,” Nick said in a video released by the team.
The Herbig brothers continue the strong bloodlines that the Steelers value. They’re the second pair of brothers on the team, joining Cam and Connor Heyward. T.J. Watt and Derek Watt were also a pair in the previous seasons three, but Derek is currently a free agent. There’s also father-son connection with Penn State cornerback Joey Porter Jr. being selected by the Steelers at 32nd overall on Friday night.
