Steelers outside linebacker Alex Highsmith was cleared from concussion protocol by an independent neurologist on Thursday and will play against the Indianapolis Colts. Highsmith was initially listed as questionable against the Colts but was upgraded to not having a game status after practicing fully on Thursday.
Highsmith originally was listed with a neck injury against the Patriots when he suffered the concussion. But he was entered into protocol the next day and worked his way up to fully clearing it before their game against the Colts. T.J. Watt did the same, though with far more controversy, and both will now suit up against the Colts.
The NFL and NFLPA are jointly reviewing Watt’s situation. Highsmith’s is cut and dry; he was removed from the game and did not return. Nick Herbig and Markus Golden were in line to start if either or both players were out. Instead, it seems likely that Golden may not play again as the team could use Kyron Johnson’s special teams ability for the week. He would be the fourth edge rusher on the roster as well.
The Steelers will be without quarterback Kenny Pickett, who is recovering from ankle surgery. In addition to him, Isaac Seumalo (shoulder) is questionable. Seumalo did not practice all week but could play as a veteran. If he can not play, it would be Nate Herbig starting.
