Steelers QB Kenny Pickett clears concussion protocol, will start Week 7 vs. Dolphins

The Pittsburgh Steelers will have quarterback Kenny Pickett back under center for their "Sunday Night Football" contest against the Miami Dolphins in Week 7. The rookie suffered a concussion in the team's Week 6 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but has now cleared the protocol.

Starting tight end Pat Freiermuth and cornerback Levi Wallace cleared the concussion protocol as well.

Pickett went down with the concussion during the third quarter of Sunday's 20-18 victory but has progressed over the last few days and was able to practice fully on Wednesday and Thursday. Both Freiermuth and Wallace were taken out during the team's Week 5 blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills and missed Week 6.

The 24-year-old signal-caller out of the University of Pittsburgh spent the first few games of the season on the bench, backing up Mitchell Trubisky, but got the call to take over as the starter at halftime of the team's Week 4 loss to the New York Jets.

Pickett has gone 55-for-83 (66.3%) for 514 passing yards, one touchdown and four interceptions, while adding nine carries for 41 yards and two scores in his three games (two starts). Trubisky has gone 78-for-128 (60.9%) for 797 passing yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions and added 13 carries for 29 yards and one touchdown over five games (four starts) during his first year with the Steelers.
