The Pittsburgh Steelers are moving on from quarterback Trace McSorley after just over a month with the team. The former Penn State star signed to the practice squad in early December following Kenny Pickett's injury. With his return, Pittsburgh is clearing some practice squad space as they head into the playoffs.

The Steelers now have three quarterbacks available for game days and actually dressed all three for their Week 18 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. In the postseason, they can utilize the third quarterback rule, allowing them to make Mitch Trubisky inactive but still have him available if Mason Rudolph and Pickett are unable to finish the game.

McSorley will hit free agency, looking to join his sixth team. He originally played for the Baltimore Ravens as a sixth-round draft pick before joining the Arizona Cardinals. This past summer, he spent time with the New England Patriots but did not make the 53-man roster. He then signed to the Chicago Bears practice squad for a short time.

As for the Steelers, they now have an opening on their practice squad heading into the Wild Card week. They recently added outside linebacker David Perales and released safety Nate Meadors.

Pittsburgh will also need to find roster spots for practice squad safety Eric Rowe and inside linebacker Myles Jack if they plan to sign both to the 53-man roster for their playoff run.
