Steelers reportedly interview former Browns coach Hue Jackson for OC position

The Steelers reportedly interviewed former Browns head coach Hue Jackson for the team's offensive coordinator position.

Pittsburgh declined to renew offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner's contract after a disappointing first-round exit in the playoffs. ESPN's Diana Russini tweeted that Jackson had been interviewed for the vacant position.

Jackson was a longtime running backs coach and offensive coordinator around the league before finally getting his shot at being a head coach for Cleveland in 2016. His tenure with the Browns was not successful by any means, as he went 1-31 over his first two years and was finally fired after a 2-5-1 start to his third season with the team.

Following his historically bad time in Cleveland, Jackson was hired to join the Cincinnati Bengals coaching staff as an assistant to Marvin Lewis. Jackson had been a Bengals coach twice before, first as a wide receivers coach in 2004-06 and then working his way up from a special teams coach to offensive coordinator from 2012-15. Jackson was fired by the Bengals in early 2019. He has not coached in the NFL since.

Whether Pittsburgh decides to hire Jackson or someone else, some changes will certainly need to be made on the offensive side of the ball. Despite winning the AFC North and starting the season 11-0, the Steelers had a mediocre offense last year, finishing the regular season 25th in the league in yards per game. The disappointing performance has led many to wonder if quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will retire, though he is under contract for one more season and previously indicated he may want to come back.
