Steelers request to interview Giants DC Patrick Graham?
The Pittsburgh Steelers' longtime defensive coordinator Keith Butler announced his retirement on Saturday. Now, the team is searching for his replacement.
It's been reported that the Steelers are expected to name their next defensive coordinator from within, as senior defensive assistant/secondary coach Teryl Austin appears to be the frontrunner. However, Pelissero's tweet indicates that Pittsburgh is at least still looking at other candidates.
Butler joined the Steelers in 2003 as a linebackers coach when Bill Cowher was still their head coach. In 2015, Butler was promoted to defensive coordinator when Dick LeBeau left to take the same position with the Tennessee Titans.
Graham coached in the college game from 2002 to 2008, serving as a graduate assistant at Wagner College for two years, a defensive line coach and then tight ends coach at the University of Richmond and then two seasons as a graduate assistant at Notre Dame.
From 2009 to 2015, Graham worked with the New England Patriots in various roles, before joining the New York Giants as their defensive line coach for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Graham was the Green Bay Packers' linebackers coach/running coordinator in 2018 and the Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator in 2019, before rejoining the Giants in 2020 as their defensive coordinator.
