Steelers sign DT Larry Ogunjobi to one-year deal after visit

It appears defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi will continue his journey throughout AFC North clubs for at least another season.

Reports surfaced earlier on Tuesday saying that Ogunjobi was visiting with the Pittsburgh Steelers. That meeting clearly went well for all involved, as ESPN's Adam Schefter reported ahead of the evening hours that Ogunjobi is joining the Steelers on a one-year deal.

Financial terms of the contract weren't immediately divulged.

It's been somewhat of a tumultuous offseason for Ogunjobi, who was set to join the Chicago Bears in March but had that three-year, $40.5 million agreement scrapped after he failed a physical for an unknown reason. ESPN added the 28-year-old underwent offseason surgery to address a right foot injury and had also visited the New York Jets during the spring.

Ogunjobi first entered the NFL when the Cleveland Browns selected him in the third round of the 2017 draft, and he spent the 2021 season with the Cincinnati Bengals. He logged 16 starts and recorded a career-best seven sacks with Cincinnati but, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, went down with his foot injury in the wild-card win over the Las Vegas Raiders and remained sidelined for the rest of the playoffs.

As mentioned by ESPN, it was Ogunjobi who pushed Steelers backup quarterback Mason Rudolph down to the ground during the well-known 2019 incident that involved Browns All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett:

Ogunjobi and Rudolph may not be teammates for long, as multiple insiders have reported Pittsburgh could look to trade the signal-caller during or after the preseason.
