Steelers sign S Damontae Kazee to one-year contract

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced a big addition to their secondary on Tuesday.

Kazee brings 69 regular-season games and three playoff contests worth of experience to Pittsburgh and has recorded 12 career interceptions. Selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Kazee played 163 defensive snaps and 247 more on special teams as a rookie, registering 23 tackles and two forced fumbles.

The San Diego St. product had his best season in 2018, producing career highs in tackles (82), passes defensed (10) and interceptions (seven) while starting 15 of the 16 games that he played in. Kazee's seven picks that year were tied with Kyle Fuller of the Chicago Bears and Xavien Howard of the Miami Dolphins for most in the NFL.

He had 74 tackles and three more interceptions in 2019 before tearing his Achilles in Week 4 of the 2020 campaign, prematurely ending his season. Kazee signed a one-year, $1.13 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys in March 2021 and finished last year with 52 tackles, four passes defensed and two interceptions.
