When T.J. Watt lost out to Myles Garrett for DPOY at the 2024 NFL Honors, many were left shaking their head.
Fans, pundits, and even siblings just wanted an answer to how someone who dominated virtually every statistical category wasn't crowned DPOY for the second time in his career.
Well, it turns out T.J. is just like everyone else:
We Need Answers
"I don't have a problem with any players," Watt told Pardon My Take. "Everybody's phenomenal. Myles [Garrett], Micah [Parsons], they're great players. Don't get me wrong. It's just that the voting. I want more clarity on how it all comes about I don’t want any of it to come across as whining or complaining it’s just the matter of fact you work so hard and when you’re not able to come away from a season with a Super Bowl you like to fall back on something.”
First off, credit to Watt for being a standup guy, especially after the comments that Cowboys star Micah Parsons made about him and why he wasn't deserving of the award.
Beyond that though, how can you disagree with what Watt is saying in terms of the judging? Voting on these player-based awards is one of the few things in sports where we don't have set criteria.
We know the rules of winning games, matches, or even pageants for that matter, but when it comes to voting on one of the most prestigious awards in football we are left in the dark?
Yeah, something needs to change.
