Steelers' trade for WR Allen Robinson II proving valuable off the field

The Steelers traded for veteran WR Allen Robinson II this offseason, and although his impact on the field hasn't been what fans were hoping for, his value off the field might be worth the trade.

According to reports, WR George Pickens is getting frustrated with his reduced role in Pittsburgh's struggling offense. The second-year wide receiver has just three catches for 21 yards and one touchdown the past two weeks and did not celebrate with WR Diontae Johnson, who scored his first touchdown in 655 days in Week 9.

However, Robinson II is proving his presence is valuable as he has been right by Pickens' side.

"The season can be a rollercoaster at times," Robinson II told reporters, via 93.7 The Fan. "So we've been continuing to talk to him and communicate to him. He's a significant player in this league and he's going to attract a significant amount of attention."

It's exactly the type of response a team hopes to get from its veterans who see any frustrations brewing in the locker room. The Steelers have dealt with "diva" receivers in the past, so getting ahead of a young player's frustrations is important.

Robinson II, who has just 19 catches for 154 yards and zero touchdowns on the season, understands it can be difficult to not see the ball thrown his way early and often.

"Everybody wants to have the numbers and things like that," Robinson II added. "It can be frustrating sometimes when you're not getting the ball. It's just staying locked in and staying aware of the big picture."

Robinson II's leadership and mentorship off the field is certainly paying dividends, which should have fans content with his addition to the team no matter the numbers he puts up the rest of the year.
