As the Pittsburgh Steelers have now gone through two rounds in the 2024 NFL Draft without taking a wideout, receiver will likely now be their top priority. The team still doesn't have a starting caliber wide receiver behind rising star George Pickens. Pittsburgh has been involved in a handful of trade rumors as of late, for stars like Brandon Aiyuk, Courtland Sutton, and even Aiyuk's teammate, Deebo Samuel.
The Steelers have had a perfect draft thus far, essentially completing the offensive line. By selecting Troy Fautanu in the first round and Zach Frazier in the second, the organization now only needs a receiver to complete the offensive rebuild. Insider Michael Silver revealed that Pittsburgh did in fact go after Samuel.
The Steelers weren't willing to give up what the San Francisco 49ers were asking for, however. Many insiders revealed that the 49ers wanted a first rounder for Aiyuk, so it's safe to say the same would go for Samuel. Both Aiyuk and Samuel are seemingly unhappy with the 49ers and their situations. Both would require big contracts to play for the Steelers, which is likely not feasible for the Black and Gold at this particular time.
Samuel and Aiyuk both combined for 14 touchdowns and over 2,000 yards for the 49ers last season. Production like that added onto the Steelers offense is just what they could be looking for, however it isn't worth a first rounder according to the Steelers brass.
Steelers Solidify Offensive Line While Receiver Position Awaits
The Steelers were able to land two studs for their offensive line in the draft, which was their top priority. The offensive line has been broken for at least three seasons now, but this new line in 2024 might change that. Pittsburgh finally has reliable guys at each of the five spots up front, which could unleash the Steelers' offense.
The Steelers have been missing a solid center since the retirement of Maurkice Pouncey, but Frazier could be the future at center for Pittsburgh. Frazier was arguably the best center in this year's draft, yet he somehow fell into the Steelers' lap at the 51st pick.
The Steelers still have a chance to pull off a trade for someone, whether it be a player on the 49ers or not. Regardless, they will be addressing the situation very soon.
