The Pittsburgh Steelers have made some major additions in free agency, signing quarterback Russell Wilson as well as signing linebacker Patrick Queen. They also swung a trade for Justin Fields.

The Steelers still have some cap room remaining to make another big signing, and Bleacher Report’s Joe Tansey sees the answer.

Edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney.

Clowney is one of the top free agents remaining and may very well have to settle for a one-year deal like he has done so frequently over the last several years, and Pittsburgh could be a potential landing spot.

Tansey notes that the Steelers may have to bolster their defense as much as possible with their offense looking very questionable heading into 2024.

Clowney makes plenty of sense for Pittsburgh in that scenario.

The 31-year-old is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he played every game for the Baltimore Ravens and racked up 43 tackles, 9.5 sacks, a couple of forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and five passes defended.

Clowney, who played his collegiate football at the University of South Carolina, was originally selected by the Houston Texans with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft.

After a couple of disappointing seasons to begin his career, Clowney made three straight trips to the Pro Bowl between 2016 and 2018, with his best year during that span coming in 2017 when he rattled off 59 tackles, 9.5 sacks, a pair of forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a defensive touchdown.

The Rock Hill, S.C. native spent the first five years of his NFL tenure with the Texans. Since then, Clowney has played for the Seattle Seahawks, Cleveland Browns and, most recently, the Ravens.

We’ll see if the Steelers make a play for Jadeveon Clowney soon.
