Former NFL general manager Steve Keim is urging the Pittsburgh Steelers to pursue a blockbuster trade ahead of the deadline that could change the landscape of their defense this season and moving forward.

Despite expectations that the team would want a large chunk in return, Keim believes the Steelers should work out a deal with the Denver Broncos to acquire cornerback Patrick Surtain II. As of now, it's believed the team would want multiple early-round draft picks, but that shouldn't change their minds on trying to get a deal done.

"You look at a team like the Pittsburgh Steelers, isn’t the sexiest team on paper but then you look at them and they’ve given up so many yards in the passing game," Keim said. "So, their secondary has really struggled. To me, a guy like Patrick Surtain right there is a guy you would go after and really make a big run at because of the talent at that position. The talent at that position it’s so hard to find and that team is 4-2 and struggled to cover plays."

A trade for Surtain would be one of the - if not the biggest trade the Steelers have ever made. While they did acquire Minkah Fitzpatrick for a first-round pick, Surtain could be worth multiple.

Still, the 23-year-old is already a proven star in this league, and working alongside Joey Porter Jr., he'd add some serious talent at the cornerback position for the Steelers.
